The prominence of streaking in 1974 has been linked both to the sexual revolution and a conservative backlash against feminism and the campus protests of the late 1960s and early 1970s. On March 11, 1974, several Americans imported streaking to Japan, where a series of copycat incidents occurred over the next month. In February 1974, the press began calling it a "streaking epidemic." By the first week of March, college campuses across the country were competing to set streaking records. A letter writer responded, "Let it be known that streakers have plagued the campus police at Notre Dame for the past decade", pointing out that a group of University of Notre Dame students sponsored a "Streakers' Olympics" in 1972. In December 1973, Time magazine called streaking "a growing Los Angeles-area fad" that was "catching on among college students and other groups". In June 1973, the press reported on a "streaking" trend at Michigan State University. Crump was suspended for the academic session, but later went on to become a U.S. The first recorded incident of streaking by a college student in the United States occurred in 1804 at Washington College (now Washington and Lee University) when senior George William Crump was arrested for running naked through Lexington, Virginia, where the university is located. Nevertheless, the chief law in force against streaking in England and Wales at that time remained the 16th-century vagrancy law, for which the punishment in 1550 had been whipping. The offences used for prosecution were typically minor, such as the violation of park regulations. įines of between £10 and £50 were imposed on streakers by British and Irish magistrates in the early 1970s. He confirmed that he had accepted a wager of 10 guineas (equal to £1,098 today) to run naked from Cornhill to Cheapside. At 7:00 PM on 5 July 1799, a man was arrested at the Mansion House, London, and sent to the Poultry Compter. Historical forerunners of modern-day streakers include the neo- Adamites who travelled naked through towns and villages in medieval Europe, and the 17th-century Quaker Solomon Eccles, who went nude through the City of London with a burning brazier on his head. In December 1973, a graduate of Carleton College in Northfield, Minnesota wrote to Time magazine that the term "streaking" was coined because the nude students ran primarily during the winter months of January and February, and "unless one appeared as a streak against the landscape, the Minnesota winter was triumphant and streaker became statue." The school's newspaper, The Carletonian, used the term "streaking" as early as 1967, but initially in negative terms: "Examples of are the large number of departing female students, the rise of class spirit, low grades, streaking, destruction, drinking, and the popularity of rock dances." History A Dutch streaker in 1941 (protesting the Germans' clothing rations) Before that, to streak in English since 1768 meant "to go quickly, to rush, to run at full speed", and was a re-spelling of streek: "to go quickly" (c.1380) this in turn was originally a northern Middle English variant of stretch (c. The word has been used in its modern sense only since the 1960s. Streakers are often pursued by sporting officials or the police. Streaking is often associated with sporting events, but can occur in more secluded areas. Streaking is the act of running naked through a public area for publicity, as a prank, a dare, or a form of protest. I came in with a friend just to catch up for a bit. In some places, you can get away with car or van camping in Big Sur, but it is never a 100% guarantee that police or national park service officers won’t come knocking on your car window in the middle of the night. In fact, most if not all lay-bys, turn-offs, and small nooks found just off Highway 1 are off-limits for tent, car, and RV camping. With so many people visiting Big Sur each year, the associated abuses involved with high numbers of people have made it quite difficult to find free camping spots along Highway 1. To be specific, it is technically considered free camping in Big Sur when the camping takes place next to Highway 1, which isn’t really tolerated anymore. This epic Big Sur camping guide will show you the best places to camp in Big Sur. This ultimate guide to camping Big Sur is the result of my experiences getting to know this beautiful and wild stretch of coast. In recent years, I have spend a lot of time exploring Big Sur’s beaches, mountains, canyons, and rivers hunting for the best Big Sur camping spots. Artists, hippies, surfers, hikers, beach bums, burnouts, and every shade of tourist ventures to this land… that land is called Big Sur. On the Central California coast, a magical, sparsely populated land of waterfalls, rugged mountains, redwood trees, stunning beaches, and blazing sunsets has been attracting people of all walks for decades. Many of the root systems are typically dense and fibrous, inhibiting the growth of other vegetation underneath them. There are a few exceptions such as sugar maple. Most are shade-tolerant when young and are often riparian, understory, or pioneer species rather than climax overstory trees. Most species are deciduous, and many are renowned for their autumn leaf colour, but a few in southern Asia and the Mediterranean region are evergreen. Others are shrubs less than 10 meters tall with a number of small trunks originating at ground level. Most maples are trees growing to a height of 10–45 m (33–148 ft). The oldest fossils of Acer in Europe are from Svalbard, dating to the late Eocene ( Priabonian ~38–34 million years ago). The oldest known fossils of Acer are from the late Paleocene of Northeast Asia and northern North America, around 60 million years old. The closest relative of Acer is Dipteronia, which only has two living species in China, but has a fossil record extending back to the middle Paleocene in North America. Many maple species are grown in gardens where they are valued for their autumn colour. It is one of the most common genera of trees in Asia. Maple syrup is made from the sap of some maple species. The closest relatives of the maples are the horse chestnuts. Maples usually have easily recognizable palmate leaves ( Acer negundo is an exception) and distinctive winged fruits. The type species of the genus is the sycamore maple, Acer pseudoplatanus, the most common maple species in Europe. Only one species, Acer laurinum, extends to the Southern Hemisphere. There are approximately 132 species, most of which are native to Asia, with a number also appearing in Europe, northern Africa, and North America. The genus is placed in the family Sapindaceae. Acer pseudoplatanus (sycamore maple) foliageĪcer ( / ˈ eɪ s ər/) is a genus of trees and shrubs commonly known as maples.

The new Protege, priced more competitively, would make a solid alternative to the Neon. Why would Joe Consumer ante up nearly $16,600 for a five-speed Protege ES when he can get a Neon Sport with every possible option, better looks, and better performance for a grand less? (On the other hand, considering the Protege's cavernous interior, perhaps it makes better sense as an alternative to Ford's Contour SE.) Make the 1.8-liter engine standard on the LX model, and offer air conditioning at no extra charge. If the numbers of new Proteges and Neons prowling the streets of America are any indication, Mazda needs to do some quick thinking to sell at least a few Proteges. Well, Mazda's new Protege has been on showroom floors for about one year. Oh, there was that pesky upstart from Chrysler Corporation too, the Neon, but was a Chrysler nothing to worry about. After all, they were redesigning a compact sedan that, since its 1990 debut, had been likened to a mini Mercedes 190, and had been one of the few four-doors competing in SCCA racing events. Inspect the engine for any fuel leaks and test it thoroughly before driving the Protege again. The engineers and designers who were putting the finishing touches on the new Protege must have lost lots of sleep during the first half of 1994. Install a replacement with a new fuel injector o-ring and reinstall your fuel rail. Remove your fuel injector and carefully remove your failed Protege fuel injector. If you find that unplugging one Protege fuel injector doesn’t cause this to happen, it could be a clear sign that’s the injector that has clogged. Properly working fuel injectors will cause your engine to stumble further and nearly die. You are looking for the injector that doesn’t affect the engine idle as badly as a working fuel injector does. To do this simply start your engine, and unplug one injector at a time. If you find that all your injectors test out with the proper resistance range, you will need to load balance your engine to find out which one is bad. Over time the deposits in your fuel can clog the performance of your injector until it doesn’t work properly. In the event that your fuel injectors test out, but your engine misfire is still obvious, this could be from a clogged injector. If you find one of your injectors falls outside of this range, it’s a sign that your injector has failed. Once you have tested one injector, move onto the next and record your findings at each step. The resistance of a good Protege fuel injector is between 12 and 16 OHMS Ω. Once you have a reading you will record it and move onto the next fuel injector. Once you have the fuel injectors unplugged, you will be gently probing the two pins of the Protege fuel injector. Testing your Protege fuel injector resistance It’s also a good idea to write down your findings on a notepad so that you can compare and find which Protege fuel injector is faulty in your engine. Open your hood and locate your fuel rail, and then proceed to unplug all of your fuel injectors. To begin our Protege fuel injector testing guide, you will need to unplug your injector connectors. This is located on top of your engine and mounted in front of your intake manifold. The four fuel injectors in your Mazda are located in the fuel rail. To do this you will need to turn the dial of your multimeter to read resistance or OHMS Ω. You’ll be using the multimeter to test the internal windings of the fuel injector. This How To guide will not only show you how to find the bad Protege fuel injector, but will also tell you if it’s clogged or simply dead. In order to correctly track down the failed injector, you’ll need to use a digital multimeter. This vehicle is equipped with the 1.8 liter engine in it, and the transverse layout makes testing your injectors easy. Today I’ll be showing you how to test a Protege Fuel Injector in a 2000 Mazda. When this occurs you’ll need to test each injector to find out which one is the culprit. This pintle style fuel injector can also become clogged over time, leading to misfire or your Mazda running on three cylinders. Failure of this fuel injector can lead to problems with your Protege starting, or even cause engine misfire issues in your 1.8 or 1.6 liter engine. There are four individual Protege fuel injector that fit into your Mazda fuel rail. During the latest quarter, the company posted a 75% year-over-year spike in revenues to $215.7 million, and the dollar-based net expansion rate was 121%.
